Port Alberni Woman Slams Dauphin

A resident of Port Alberni defends her quotes from a local newspaper.

Carolyn Jasken told the Alberni Valley Times that Dauphin doesn’t have a good fishing town, according to her, it’s because of what she’s been told.

“They really don’t deserve this,” Jasken said. “They don’t even have a good fishing town.”

When speaking to 730 CKDM, Jasken said: “Well I’ve heard that it’s about an hour and a half drive to get your line in the water. There’s a limited amount species of fish and I’m not really to sure about what Dauphin has, I’ve just seen some of their submissions and pictures and I think Port Alberni is the Ultimate.”

Jasken adds thats her town has 8 different species of fish and that it’s just a short 5 to 10 minute drive to all their bodies of water.

Voting continues in the Ultimate Fishing Town Contest on Tuesday (September 7th).

Five-time Grammy Award winner Robert Cray is coming back to Winnipeg hot off the heels of his latest record, This Time, released on Cray’s own imprint, Nozzle Records.

This Time arrives at a vital juncture in the musician’s career, marked by creative renewal and a key reunion with an old performing partner.

Cray summarized 35 years of mastery on the debut Nozzle release Live From Across the Pond (2006), an electrifying two-CD concert set drawn from a series of shows (opening for Eric Clapton) at London’s Royal Albert Hall. When the time came to follow up that widely praised collection with a studio recording, Cray viewed it as an opportunity to move his sound in other directions.

He found exactly what he was looking for by turning to one of his oldest friends and colleagues: bassist Richard Cousins, whose tenure with the Robert Cray Band began with its barnstorming regional origins in Eugene, Oregon, in 1974 and extended through 1991, encompassing such early high-water marks as Strong Persuader (1986) and Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark (1988), both winners of the best contemporary blues performance Grammy.

Cray, who began last year with concert appearances in Brazil and Japan, is supporting This Time with shows around North America with his reconfigured band.
