First Nation Candidate

Romeo Saganash is a Member of parliament who is running for the leadership of the NDP.  He is the only First Nation candidate running to be the leader of the official opposition.  Mr. Saganash’s riding is the second largest riding in Canada, and makes up almost 50% of the landmass of the province.  He represents Inuit communities, Algonquin communities, Cree communities, as well as non-native municipalities that focus on mining and other natural resources.  Mr. Saganash was born in northern Quebec and spent 10 years in a residential school.  He became the first Cree ever to receive a law degree in Quebec.  He is also the only member of the Cree council to work with all its leaders.   Any member of the NDP can vote for Mr. Saganash at the leadership convention being held this spring.  You don’t have to go to the convention in Toronto to vote.  You can vote online or by phone.  For more information, go to http://www.saganash.ca , or to join the federal NDP go to http://www.ndp.ca
